A retired senior executive with ExxonMobil Corporation, Tracey Gunnlaugsson is the founder of Tracey Gunnlaugsson Consulting, LLC, a Texas-based firm that reflects her interest in board service and non-profit leadership roles. During her 35-year tenure with ExxonMobil, Tracey Gunnlaugsson developed expertise in setting business strategy, implementing business transformation and running businesses that create significant value. This included skills in operations, commercial negotiations, project management, risk management and talent management.
She joined ExxonMobil as a merchant marine deck officer, spent seven years at sea, and later held a wide range of roles in preparation for senior executive level roles in a large "Fortune 10" company: from business analysis, supply chain operations, corporate planning, investor relations to commercial management. This progression provided her with a unique perspective on how strategy, people, risk, and execution connect across a globally diverse, large, complex organization and how to implement significant change at scale.
As the president and CEO of SeaRiver Maritime (ExxonMobil's marine transportation affiliate), Tracey Gunnlaugsson led global shipping strategy, commercial activities as well as fleet operations and fleet restructuring. She served on the executive committee of the Oil Companies International Marine Forum, held a board position with ITOPF, and served as a trustee for the United States Coast Guard Foundation. At ExxonMobil, Ms. Gunnlaugsson later served as the chief human resources officer and president of global trading.
Outside of her professional endeavors, she is a member of the Council of American Master Mariners, and her charitable activities span a wide range of interests including numerous Catholic schools and charities, Make-a-Wish, the United Way and U.S. Veteran support organizations. Other board-related involvement has included Federal Service Academy Selection Boards for congressional representatives in the state of Texas.
Ms. Gunnlaugsson graduated with a master’s degree in management from Salve Regina University and a bachelor’s degree from the United States Merchant Marine Academy. She also held a United States Coast Guard license as a Master 1600 gross ton vessels and Chief Mate unlimited tonnage. She was in the U.S. Naval Reserve for 8 years. In the future, she intends to advance her skills in fine art and ceramics.
